Why Is the Puddle Jumper Such A Great Lure?
I did not design the PUDDLE JUMPER. I do not consider myself as being a great Crappie fisherman. I don’t get to fish as often as I should or would like to. I do know that I get lots of calls from serious Crappie fishermen (and women) who consider the PUDDLE JUMPER their favorite lure for CRAPPIE.
I have spent a good deal to time trying to figure out why the PUDDLE JUMPER is such a good lure. Let me give you a few observations. It is different than any other lure.
- If you use it on light line, 4-8 lbs test, it will spiral down like a dying minnow. This gives the fish time to see it and gives them the impression of an easy meal.
- You can’t hold it still in the water. If you suspend the bait above the fish the tail action mimics a swimming minnow.
- It has a wide profile. If you look at the lure as it lays in the water, the wings give it a wide profile, much like the fins on a minnow give a minnow a wide profile. Most say that a Crappie feeds up. I really think this wide profile is important.
If you have any other suggestion on why the PUDDLE JUMPER is such a good bait please share them with me.
